Launch of Bitcoin Futures Trading Crashes CBOE Site - Slashdot
Overall, trading bitcoin futures is a positive development for the cryptocurrency says the research team at Fundstrat... The introduction of derivatives lays the necessary market structure for institutions to allocate cash towards cryptocurrencies , points out Fundstrat...
Short sellers may now express negative views on bitcoin, which could lead to short-term pricing pressure. But the ability for short sellers to hate on bitcoin could be viewed as a longer term positive, Fundstrat says. Shorting essentially creates true price discovery and means that hedge funds could take bitcoin more seriously. This should improve the long-term prospects of bitcoin as it broadens sponsorship, Fundstrat believes.

Selling iPhone X. T-Mobile and Verizon salespeople speak out
"When I worked at AT&T we had incentives for the S8. For every pre-order, we got an 8-dollar spiff. T-Mobile only has 'sell this much of that phone and we will give you that phone.' Sprint does not. Verizon, if we meet a quota and sell a certain amount of the phones, we get a free one," he said. (A spiff is what salespeople call an incentive. It's different from a spliff.)
You Can Now Click 'Cryptocurrency OK' on Craigslist, Because That's Not Sketchy at All
Unlike with other retailers, there’s not a lot of overhead here for Craigslist—as a classifieds site, it never sees a cut of any of the transactions it enables at all. Several firms are now considering whether to get into the Bitcoin futures game, despite the possibility of an imminent market crash .

Why we need to shatter the illusion of work-life balance for entrepreneurs
I do think it’s important to discuss these topics and since entrepreneurship can be a lonely profession at times, you have to vent to someone, but what bugs me is people rarely admit the reality: work-life balance, at least for entrepreneurs, is a pretense. It’s a bit like when a doctor asks you whether you’ve ever smoked and your immediate answer is no even though you did and still do occasionally with a pint of beer.

Watch Christmas Island’s Annual Crab Migration on Google Street View
Every year, the 45 million or so red crabs on the remote Australian territory of Christmas Island migrate en masse from their forest burrows down to the ocean to mate, and so the female crabs can release their eggs into the sea to hatch. The migration starts during the fall, and the number of crabs on the beach often peaks in December. This year, you don’t have to be on Christmas Island to witness the spectacular crustacean event, as New Atlas reports. You can see it on Google Street View.
Five toy drones for beginners
Made to zip around your living room or backyard for a few minutes at a time, toy drones are a good way to practice your piloting skills without worrying about watching something $500 or much, much more hit the ground or disappear into the trees. They're also a lot of fun to fly -- whether or not you're into RC toys. And, because the tech inside is getting smaller and cheaper, you can find them with more advanced features like GPS for safer, easier piloting and cameras for first-person-view flying (FPV).
Huawei's P11 may have some serious camera specs
Blass claims that the "Huawei PCE Series" phone in question is the follow-up to the Huawei P10, assumed to be called the Huawei P11. The P10 is already a capable camera phone -- it has a dual-lens, 20- and 12-megapixel rear camera setup and 8-megapixel front camera -- but if the rumors are true, the Huawei P11 could get some serious upgrades. Transitioning to a 24-megapixel front camera would be a significant step up from the P10. A triple-lens rear camera would also be a break from the P10 and Huawei P9 , which both use dual rear cameras.
The Best TVs of 2018
Your ideal TV should provide enough video connections not only for now, but for the foreseeable future as well. The most important input is HDMI, which supports all major forms of digital video sources including Blu-ray players, game consoles, set-top boxes, cameras, camcorders, phones, tablets, and PCs through a single cable. Most TVs have three or four HDMI ports, but some might only have two. It's the best way to send 1080p video from your devices to your screen with one cable, and will be the main way you connect your main sources of entertainment to your TV. If you want a 4K screen, make sure at least one of the HDMI ports is HDMI 2.0. It's the latest standard that supports 4K video at 60 frames per second; older HDMI ports can only handle 4K up to 30 frames per second, at best.
The Must Have Accessories for Your iPhone X
This time, the jump from 64 GB to 256 costs $150. Because the iPhone X is already so expensive, you might have opted for the 64 GB version thinking it’s going to be enough. But if you end up using iPhone’s cameras as designed – taking RAW photos, capturing 4K video and 240 fps slo-mo, that 64 GB is going to fill up fast.
Apple’s AI director on advances in machine learning for its self-driving car project
Wired reports that Salakhutdinov spoke before a group of AI experts at the end of this year’s Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference in Long Beach, California. There, he spoke about how Apple is using machine learning to analyze data to from a vehicle’s cameras. He talked about techniques used in a recently published study on the advances that the company has made in using AI to detect pedestrians and cyclists using LiDAR. But he also revealed efforts on some other projects: software that uses a car’s cameras to identify objects such as cars and pedestrians, as well as the drivable lanes on the road. He also showed off images that demonstrated how the system performed even when camera lenses were obscured by raindrops, and how their software could infer where pedestrians were, even when they were obscured by parked cars.
