Bethesda at E3 2018: Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield

Again, we know very little except it's a science fiction game set in space . One would hope it's a science fiction game set in space with the scope of, say, an Elder Scrolls or a Fallout. That's reasonable to assume given the way Todd Howard was talking about it. This is a major Bethesda game. Howard referred to it as the first major new franchise game for the company in over 20 years.

The Repeal of Net Neutrality Is Official | Hacker News

Netflix claims that they were paying for transit to Comcast customers through their transit ISPs, and that they should not be responsible for upgrading the (congested) peering links between Comcast and the transit providers. The FCC declaration went so far as to claim that Comcast was intentionally letting peering links congest (see paragraph 29 of the declaration) to force Netflix to pay for direct connectivity. (Here is precisely where the confusion with net neutrality and paid prioritization comes into play, but this is not about paid prioritization, but rather about who should pay who for connectivity. More on that later.)

London's tech startups are booming, but their biggest challenge is just around the corner | ZDNet

London has many advantages, of course. A shared language has made it the first port for US tech companies looking to grow into Europe, as has its position as English-speaking but also part of the European Union. London's long-standing role as a financial hub has given its fin-tech start-ups access to customers and know-how. And the city's long history and status as one of the world's most open, multi-cultural and diverse capitals has made it somewhere that millions are proud to call home.

'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey' is a love letter to ancient Greece

As these two empires fight to establish broader power, your play as a young Spartan mercenary who goes on quest to help his people defeat the Athenians. At the start of your journey in Odyssey , which features the largest open world Ubisoft has ever created for an Assassin's Creed game, you can choose between a male (Alexios) or female (Kassandra) character. They both have similar paths in the overall narrative, but Ubisoft says there will be some unique experiences along the way for each. I picked Alexios simply because I liked his outfit better, and perhaps because I imagined that if I had been a Spartan myself thousands of years ago, I would've looked more like him.

iOS 12 beta: Should I run it? Is it faster than iOS 11? Will it break your iPhone? | ZDNet

A: I've got my notifications pretty locked down already to the point where about 90 percent are things I actually want to see a notifications for, so while there's room for tightening them up, I don't think it's that's great. Go code refactoring : the 23x performance hunt – Val Deleplace – Medium

The concurrency strategy in the “good” version consists in processing each line of input in its own goroutine, to leverage multiple cores. This is a legitimate intuition, as goroutines have the reputation to be lightweight and cheap. How much are we gaining thanks to concurrency? Let’s compare with the same code in a single sequential goroutine (just remove the go keyword preceding the line parsing function call)

How to use data to promote workplace diversity

Parisi: Sure. I mean, obviously the mix of the diversity profile that the company's striving for is the outcome, so that's the big one, but then there's the in-process measures. So, I think what we're finding and seeing is the metrics that companies are establishing are being shared even with the board, and they include things like data that supports their current succession realities; how quickly the succession candidates are actually evolving and being put into new roles, and not just being recognized as potential. It cuts across ... Diversity is not just female and male, and if they can break down the succession movement, and candidates by business unit and function, they get to a level of depth where, again, you get ownership that people can move on and take action on.

How to make file sharing easy on your network with LAN-Share

I'm always on the lookout for ways to make my workflow more efficient. One area that always needs improving is file sharing across a LAN. Sure there's Samba, but that requires a bit of configuration and usage that could be a bit above the paygrade of your users. So when I need the easiest way to share files over any given LAN, I turn to a handy tool called LAN-Share . With LAN-Share you can easily send files and folders to any machine on your network. The only requirement is that both sender and recipient have the application installed and running. With LAN-Share at work, users only need to know which machine they want to send to. LAN-Share auto-discovers all machines running the app, so users only have to select from a list.

4 questions to ask yourself when you have to make a big decision

There are two kinds of decision makers, productivity expert and author Laura Vanderkam wrote in 2016 : “maximizers,” those who are committed to finding the absolute best option, and “satisficers” who have a set of criteria, and make their decision based on the first option that meets it. On its face, maximizers might seem like the best approach to take, but unfortunately, this can actually paralyze decision making. In the back of their minds, they know there’s always something better out there.

By Wednesday June 6th, Opportunity was in minimal operations mode because of sharply decreasing power levels. The brave little rover is continuing to weather the storm; it sent a transmission back to Earth Sunday morning, which is a good sign. It means there's still enough charge left in the batteries to communicate with home, despite the fact that the storm is continuing to worsen. The funding comes after a period of strong growth: Memrise has now passed 35 million users globally across its 20 language courses, and it tipped into profitability in Q1 of this year. Why blockchain could transform the world financial system and what that would mean | ZDNet

Woodard said he expects banks will start in fintech and roll the technology out to a small group of customers, and if the technology is proven to work for that group, it will be rolled out to the core platform. "Some banks will say that they're coming out and testing, others that they're not, but I know most, if not all, have either public or internal projects that they're testing. And they'll find a very small portion of their business that they can test on first. If that works they'll roll it out to broader sections of the organization," Woodard said.
